      I'm guessing you mean e39?

What year is it? e34 was about 1988ish to 1995ish, and after that was e39. Not sure how long the e39 ran for, as I only liked the older stuff lol.

Had an e34 535i (non sport) manual. I loved it to bits, but it had far too many problems to keep on the road.

As for e39's, I don't know much about them, but I heard they can be a little unreliable and expensive to repair... There are a few good BMW forums on the net, so I would check some of them out too...

had a few beemers in my time and loved every one of em! i assume we're talking e34 535i sport?
were v good cars imo,if a little tail happy in the wet! the later e39 535i has a v8 engine apposed to the earlier straight 6cyl. although are more expensive to fix... the e39 540i (286bhp 4.4) can be had for 3k now. niiiiice

not so good for plastering in mud and filling with fishing tackle as a surf though...

yep the e34 535i sport apparently its quite a rare car as its fitted with an lsd.i know they have head gasket issues just wondered if there was anything else..its on a g plate so i think that would make it an 89 model.its not the hilux im getting rid off its the other toy,the scooby its just not for me.

The ones I've seen on the roads didn't have working indicators or rear view mirrors, and seem to only have two speeds, fast and stop.

indicators are an optional extra on bmw's. mot testers don't even look to see they have any, they're simply not nessary! especially if you spend most of your time on the motorway as you will be in the bmw lane at all times...

seriously though e34 535i is a v nice car, sport even nicer and rarer.
preferbly red with alpinas imo. just remember when approacihng roundabuts that if your going straight on you MUST be in the outside lane..

                      Hey mark I had a 316, 524 and later a 537i

The 316 never let me down but both 5 series had a lot of little problems Like Vince said electrics...
They often went wrong, no lights or wipers, not starting because the immobiliser does not go off, no radio etc....
The ecu had to be reset twice on the 537i in the year I had the car....
oh yes and I did blew the head gasket but she was on lpg and I never drove on fuel to keep things wet.

But very compfie to drive adn a nice car...
Just had to get rid as it was costing to much to keep on the road..

Why not get a Honda Legend mate.... !!??
One day at the time I guess..

It sounds like it's only running on three cylinders.

Come to think of it, they all do.
