      Read an old army self recovery manual with a similar idea in it except they suggested wrapping the strap around the axle. Never tried it though and no idea if it's a good idea or not...

        You'd need a locked diff for it to work, in which case you probably wouldn't be stuck in the first place

          Cant imagine it does anything on the end of the axle a lot of good,
          let alone the suspension etc

          this Arab lot, seem to have a penchant for 'blinginess' beyond reach of mortal man

              It looks in the film like they have one on each rear wheel so I don't think a locked diff would be needed, it wouldn't do much for your alloys I agree but I can't see how it's putting more pressure on the axle than getting good grip on the tyre would, I like the idea
