  • Smoking at 1500 rpm

Any ideas if this is serious, starts fine even on cold mornings runs well, when its idling the engine tends to miss a little sounds tappety and then at 1500rpm gives off a blue tinted smoke and gets lumpy. Never noticed it before or when driving just today when warming it up.

If I remember correctly, blue is oil burning. Probably just a tad that's settled and burning off. Most likely just temp related. What oil are you running? With regards to the lumpiness, new filters and batteries checked/replaced will most likely sort that. Dumping a bottle of Redex in won't hurt, either.

I run the truck on 90-95% WVO and always seems to start ok and run fine. This time I put in veg at 100% as I had no petrol or diesel to mix, so this morning I decided to sit and warm the engine before driving too far as it gets lumpy when on 100% first thing. I noticed blue tinted smoke only at around the 1500rpm seemed ok at idle and ok above even when it got hot still lumpy and smokey at 1500 could this be turbo problems? will have another look after work is there any other symptoms to look for?
Got no sign of oil in water or water in oil, oil and water levels seem ok just dont want to let it go if its something i can sort before getting too bad.

Oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter changed every 3-4000 miles and done less than 2000 miles ago. Will the batteries cause problems when running? thay start the truck easy and the charge is around the 13.8 from alternator.

100% V.O at this time of year? I think you have your answer pretty much there.

So it's easier to first ask a mechanic for his opinion on something which they can rarely prove either way without replacement over bunging twenty quids worth of fuel in? That's weird logic. Turbo's don't do lumpy, the last I heard.

I would definately say its the 100% veg causing the problem and get the filter changed and fill it with redex or atf.my truck runs lumpy for quite a while if i run high % of veg this time of year

It'll be the front tyres causing problems.

Well not really, but looking at your previous posts, you seem to ask for help then go and do your own thing anyway.

                        Yep nice

The lumpiness yes down to veg on starting, basically agreed that in first reply.
Dont agree blue smoke caused by veg, when the truck is hot it idles fine and runs well without any smoking, just when sitting at 1500 seems to give off blue smoke.

The lumpyness is caused by the veg not being burnt correctly, probably because it is took thick. 1/2 burnt fuel can also burn a whiteish blue smoke. I would thin out the veg or set up a tempoary derv supply and retry.

The burning question (excuse the pun )

Does is lose any engine oil?
