certainly did as of 1977 due to heavy petitioning. the term alsatian came in during WW1 as a euphemism for germans and it spread to the breed. following WW2 it continued across europe and america coz of general distain for the gemans. but, after some intelliegnt people got together and said this is gash, they put the breed back to its original breed name.Originally posted by MattF View PostNow if you'd said that earlier, I'd have known you were talking bunkum.
Did the K.C seriously ditch that reference to them?
technichally alsatian is a term for a gerry. the dog was officially named an alsatian wolf hound/dog. but its all hisrtory bollox. my sick boy is a big GSD!!!!i swear, it was like that when i got here...

Just been checking. Started off as GSD, was changed to Alsation after the war, (due to the sentiment towards the Germans), then KC went back to GSD in 1977. I think, anyhow. There's cartloads of info on the page.Originally posted by Bibs View PostThe two types - thought the GSD was lower at back end and Alsations stood more level. Hey I duno - just in my mind.
Looks like Alsation may be derived from a border name, not a town, from the quick glance I had.
