  • Hot Oil

For a few weeks now when I park the truck up I can smell hot oil (I hope you know what I mean). There are no oil leaks onto the exhaust area that I can see, the oil pressure is fine, and after doing 350 miles yesterday everything else feels and sounds like it should.

I'm at a loss as to what it might be. Any ideas, oh wise and knowledgable ones?

It would be just my luck to have spent money on body lifts, spotlights, wheels and tyres etc only for something major to happen!!

Have you recently fitted Diff breathers? if so where do the pipes run too, rear cubby box per chance?

I had this a while back.

My cam cover gasket had split, towards the back, LHS of the cover. It would slowly drip oil onto the exhaust.

Cheap part from roughtrax and Bobs a close relative!

Well I found 4 or 5 spots of oil on the drive this morning, looks like it's coming form the diff area. Too cold and dark after work to be lying under trucks so it looks like a weekend job!

Dip your finger in one of the spots, if it's really stinky oil it'll be the diff.
If it smells the same as the inside of the oil filler cap, it'll be engine oil............... obviously.

Definitely diff oil chaps! Had a peep under there this afternoon and it's coming from that area. Will wipe it all down and see if I can spot where it's actually leaking from.

Hope it's easily fixable, remember the other day when I posted, and Apache said nothing goes wrong when the weather is warm? I'm sure he put the hex on me!
