It sounds like there's something wrong with it. I would re-connect it to the last PC it synchronised with, then re-synchronise and reset it.

here you go. i used to use itunes all the time but unfortunatly never really worked. no matter how hard they try apple software just doesn't seem to work well if at all on windows. try wimamp from the link above its free from virus and spyware and you'll be able to click portables from the left hand side once loaded. it should come up with your ipod. if i were you, once i had my music off the ipod i would go and clear it using the apple software tool, and reset to factory settings. this will get rid of any corrupt filing, then update it and reload all your material from winamp again

You can save yourself a lot of trouble by not ripping your CD's to the Apple format ACC .m4a but use the Tools Menu in i-Tune to set ripping to MP3 format files (192Kbit is good enough). The beauty of pure MP3's is that are much more 'portable' shall we say- than Apple specific ACC files. These have a nasty habit of scrambling ripped albums on your hard drive in an un-recoverable and un-transferable way.

I have known people who ripped thier entire CD collection onto hard drive & i-pods. Then sold the CD's on e-bay thinking their music collection was both safe and transferable. An expensive mistake!!

So stick to MP3's and avoid any proprietry formats- oh and don't sell all your albums.....

omg it seems to work,imported music from pc and ipod,cant see total anywhere tho??any ideas?

trying to import all the music onto it,want to make sure its all on there,over 9000 with stuff on the pc,looked as tho it had,but ejected ipod now just left with pc stuff?

all the totals are at the bottom of the screen. with winamp all you should have to do is drag and drop. just highlight what you want to put on. if all of your pc stuff is now on there. if you already had stuff on your ipod and its not registering just make sure you didnt delete it all by using itunes. if you load i tunes onto your comp and it isnt synced with your ipod it deletes everything of your ipod to protect copyright. it is a pain if all the music was yours in the firs place. the only other thing i can think of is your ipod has corrupt files and needs to be cleaned and updated. mine had to be updated and cleaned a couple of months back works fine and fast now

hmm its gets tricky now lol,cause hers in on itunes,ive loaded mine on there quite alot over the lasr day and is working fine still,i load mine on winmap,finds my ipod,says its transfered files but when i unplug ipod they go,where do i drag and drop from?by goin into my computer etc and dragging file to winamp?

no. what you have to do is click on local media and audio. this should display all the songs that are currently on your computer. then go to the main song/album box and press ctrl + a to select everything. once you have done that drag and drop into your ipod under the portables tab. it will come up with a percentage complete next to your ipod symbol then. always make sure you eject your ipod correclty as this will cause corruption otherwise.

nope thats wot i wanted to do tho lol,just done previous step so now filling up ipod with my old tacks from my sony one lol,but ateast i know now lol,cheers for help,hope i didnt make u swear to much lol,ps is there a bit to check for duplicate songs?

yes there is but i have not found it on the new winamp yet. there is also a way to remove dead files from winamp too which just muck up the ipod. just have a play around with it. takes some getting used to but works well once you know how. i have found it to be the best player on the net for me.

cheers matey,after this lot my ipod will have about 11 thousand songs lolol,i think i need to thin it out a bit lol,cheers for help tho,nearly gave up earlier lol
