my car is clonking in 4wd.
doesnt seem to work all the time in 4wd.
i have free wheeling hubs on front.they are in tact.
there is drive through to diff,and the shafts do turn.
stuck it on a muddy incline.and only rear wheel spun.
any one got any ideas?

Could be a number of things such as the pipes that activate the locking collar on the front axel.
Have you been using it in 4x4 on the road (hard surface), if so you could have caused damage.

Could be broken crownwheel or pinion. Drop the oil and see if any metal bits come out.

What kind of free-wheeling hubs, manual or auto?

When you say 'drive through to diff' are you saying that the propshaft is spinning when the engine's running? Presumably you've been under it whilst it's on a rolling road or something?

When you say 'the shafts do turn' are you saying that not only is the propshaft going, but that the driveshafts are too? That being the case, it could only be your hubs, surely.

its a 95 model 3l auto.3" suspension lift.2" body lift.
manual free wheeling hubs.
put it on a slightly muddy hill.lol.
got someone to look under while apply a bit of gas.
front driveshafts do turn,but not front wheels.
just clunking noise.
got mechanic to av look at hubs.he said they ok.nothing broken there.

if the front drive shafts are spinning then it can only be your hubs that are not working properly

the pipes seem to work ok.
dont drive on road in 4x4.however,i did have the front hubs on 4x4 and after a couple of miles could hear a nockin noise.stopped turned to 2x4,no noise.
