  • Novatech bare bones pc's

    Was just looking at these

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/barebones.html

Any of the cheaper ones any good?! An any idea on total cost by the time the extras are added?! Wouldn't be going crazy on graphics card or anything.

Main use is to run a program called Reason. Music software basically.

If you're using Reason, you need a high end PC, budget stuff is not going to work!

Just to qualify that comment. My Audio card cost almost £300 and my PC speakers a further £200. I consider these to be minimum, not optimum. The rest of my PC was the best part of £1k.

we had my mates decks all wired up through my pc so we could record on the fly direct to mp3.

it worked great, except the input recording volume was always too high. needed to be attenuated i think.. someone said it was because we were using the on board sound of the pc!
5.1 surround comes out the pc fine though.. very strange..

Rod, have you not looked at the specs for the software?

if your making music, definately source a good sound card, the pc you can build yourself. that way you can source parts from anywhere for cheaper than a built machine.
i have a tft screen i may swap for a nice grille if your interested
        Oh Nana, what's my name?

i could be interested in that! I'll dig the grille out soon an check its ok for you.

Reason 4 spec is pretty low.

          Windows XP SP2 or Vista
Processor: Intel P4 / AMD Athlon XP or better
Memory: 512 MB RAM minimum, 1 GB recommended
          Screen resolution: 1024x768
2 GB free hard disk space
          DVD reader
16-bit windows compatible audio card, preferably with DirectX or ASIO drivers
Recommended: MIDI keyboard with built-in MIDI interface, or MIDI keyboard and MIDI interface

My current pc could probably half handle it but its a wee bit fecked.

After a couple of hours it gets sluggish an has had enough an needs restarting.

            Looks sometimes decieve!

There's a huge difference between handling it OK and handling it well. Do you think Liam Howlett will use low end laptops?

And if you've never seen them live, you don't know what you're missing!

the Barebone systems that you are looking at are a good start but a good sound card and speakers are going to be needed and that will cost you as much if not more than the computer its self.

if you really want the best speakers you can get, get a set of Genelec.
                        :Warning:
there not cheap but are the best of the best
