  • Clonking noise

Ever since i had the truck there is a clonking noise coming from what I think is the rear N/S.Passed its MOT recently with no suspesion probs. I cannot find anything loose, and the exhaust does not hit on anything. This only occurs when going over small bumps and sometimes speed bumps. I noticed today that with a load in the back the clonk disappears, this is driving me nuts.Any helpful suggestions as to the cause would be very welcome from the wiser people on here.

Have you got after market shocks? If you have, it may be the soleniod thingy that is usually fitted to the top of the shock so you can adjust it....

Or - might be some crud somewhere in the back, near the springs - dunno...

I know it shouldn't make any difference with a load but I have a clonking noise and I found it to be the window motor in the N/S rear door which is hanging loose inside. Worth a peak inside the door panel?

I suppose it depends if the load is against the door??? Certainly worth a look though...

It should not be window motor, recently replaced with a new secondhand one,so I know everything is tight in there, but thanks for the suggestion.

Sounds like one of the rear anti role bar brackets has broken. Can be a bit of a sod to change if its the one up by the fuel tank and the studs have sheared. I gave up in the end and took the arb off altogether.

I get clonking from the rear. It comes and goes. On mine its the LC springs not sitting quite right. I have some new 'outrageous offroad' spring locators, but haven't got round to fitting them yet.

Is your bottle jack secure under your rear seat? or the winding handle?.

Jack is solid, never had a handle, just the long rod, welded a nut on it and use a ratchet.
