  • I have no clue...

First off, Hi, name is Philip in USAF stationed in japan and i just bought a 1990 hilux surf... I have zero knowledge about it.... 4cyl... 4wd.... uhhh... yup

mainly bought it for this winter to drive up in mountains to go snowboarding and i want to prep it for such. It does make some grinding noise when i turn it all the way.... front tires are pretty worn... i just want to make sure its going to survive... going to change oil soon... and i will take pics and post them here
so any advice for it would be greatly appreciated, once again i have no clue about it... and its pretty slow...

    but yeah thanks in advance

Welcome. Is the grinding when you're on full lock? If so, the steering stops need greasing. Do a search on here and you'll find some pics of where they are.

In the tech section, there's a sticky with other odds and sods of info that may be useful. Wouldn't worry too much about any problems. You're in the scrapyard capital for spares for them.

Welcome Phillip, you'll not want for information on here, as matt said look behind each wheel and you'll see the steering stops, thats the useual cause of that arse quaking noise, stick a bit of grease on em and it'll dissapear, they should have plastic caps on but more than likley they've worn or fell off,

USAF! Japan! airdrop of goodies over here

Ain't it a bugger when they give you that disapproving look 'cos you're sat chuckling at something on the computer.
