yeah, tis gr8 got part time job in Dreams, lol.

Ah, do i be getting some stick 4 having a 3rd gen? Am I one of "them" who's got the soft option? Its not bad so far, but I did honestly prefer my last 2nd gen 3.0td with 3 in lift and large MF tyres.

Actually I know it is fairly soon to have a technical question, but should I start a thread in another section on here, os is this bit ok? Got question about 4wd, er, not doing 4wd!!!!!!!

      Cheers

oh, I turned down a pink 3rd gen, it didn't match my eyes

        daithediver,

best way to treat a helmet is with a bucket; actually no, a small cup full of ice cubes for ten minutes. If you can find it again after you'll be glad to know the pain & swelling are less, pmsl.

              welcome to the site..

whats wrong with the old 4WD then? i dont know anything about 3rd gens.. i think they have a centre diff that means that you can use it on tarmac too. unlike our 2nd gens.

                    Dieselboy,

It wont go from 2wd to 4wd when you touch the button. No light comes up on dash and I can't hear "something happening" noise, nor does the steering go heavier on take up of 4wd (well, my 2nd gen used to do that). Unless I'm mistaken it doesn't appear to go in to 4wd even with moving lever manually to 4H, as rear wheels still spin. It drives in 4L; I guess it doesn't have to be in 4wd to funuction in 4L?

Got 4x4 TOYS details off here, but seems they are closed for refurb at the moment, but I might phone anyway.

The reason I need to be careful and get pointed in the right direction is I bought the car off a dealer and I want to point them in right direction before they give it to their mechanic, who hasn't worked on a surf before.

I understand the 3rd gen are same a UK landcruiser colorado mechanically - therefore I guess a mechanic wouldn't get too lost if working on this surf?

Thanks for any further help on this one...

You're right that it's practically the same as the Colorado/Prado

It may be a switch on the transfer - although I've got a 2nd gen, my girlfriend has a 3rd gen - without this fault, but I could get under it, disconnect the switch I'm thinking of and see what happens - there should be someone on here with better knowledge of the 3rd gen transfer than me....

Mine was fixed by replacing a switch on the transfer case itself.....you never know.
