I have both one under and one on the back that way then if you are unfortunate to get two puncture's then you are ok
Originally only had the rear mounted one but managed to get hold of a underslung kit and after a few mods it works

After the trouble i had getting one i have to say swing out! nice looking wheel on there looks the dogs and i stuck a fuel tank where the underslung was, bit of a pain keep swinging it out to get in the back but the look outweighs that, lowering the underslung was a real pain even in good weather

Swing out, for sure. No way I'd have wanted to be on my hands and knees in Wales last weekend if I had to change a tyre!

If I want two - I'd put a second on a roof rack, but unless you're on your own there's likely to be someone else travelling with you who'll lend you a spare.

I have one of each, one under and one on the back just in case i get two puncture's, best of both worlds. oh, and plus the 4 spares i have on the back yard, so i don't tend to use either of them off the car.

            Thanks for the replies!

So a swing out (sister) one is better to have, as then there is the choise.

Ok, so what if I wanted to take the swing arm off - is that difficult?

And how much are the bits to have a underslung one?

Underslung, look how neat and tidy the rear of the truck is without a lump of wheel and tyre stuck on the back.

Oh, and there's no need to put your knees on the ground when removing the spare, just stick the handle in the hole, wind the spare down 'till the chain goes slack and pull the wheel out from under the truck.

Which in your case is dry tarmac.

In other's cases, its possibly you'll be dragging your spare through 6" of mud. No, rear slung is the sensible one.

                      On the back

Nothing worse then getting under the car, getting dirty and muddy only to find the spares flat.

Go for the rear mounted tyre setup

If you have the right setup you dont even need to lift the tyre. Check out the design fitted to my vehicle.

                      Cheers Matt.

Ps Thats the mountain range in the bakground they shot the new film Australia at. Pretty awesome place to visit

Definately rear hung. Those plain rear ends look so effeminate, whereas the rear carrier makes the whole car look much more, well "butch"!! And they help protect the rear end when you back into something (because you can't see over the top of the spare tyre - been there done that - twice!!).

Can I just say, I have never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever had a puncture in any vehicle since I passed my test in 1981.

Probably get one tomorrow now I said that.
