  • My heart wants a Gen 2, my brain wants a Gen 3...

My heart wants a Gen 2, my brain wants a Gen 3 :-(

Please help me understand all the pro's and con's of each model!

I have put down what I know below, any help much appreciated!

    Gen 3

    Pro:

    Middle diff
Swing up rear door (no putting the window down to open it)
    Airbags
    Better side impact protection
    Wider body
    More space
    Improved suspension (?)
    Newer
    More 'plush'

    Con:

Not as classic looking as the 2nd Gen
    More expensive

    Gen 2

    Pro:

    Classy styling
    Cheaper
    Little more compact

    Con:

    Older
No 4wd on tarmac (break the transmission)
    No airbags
    Less side impact protection
    Agricultural
Wind down the (prone to fail) rear window to open boot (but easy fix)

well being slightly biased,yr con for 2nd gen rear window.......,isnt really,it's very handy for timber etc, window motors do go wrong, but very easy to fix, plus if u get even a decent second gen, leaves u cash to modify

you don't need 4wd on tarmac, and they don't roll over any easier than a 3rd gen.

in a 2nd gen it's not a good idea to go round corners on a dry surface with 4wd on.

4wd is fine where the inner wheel on the corner has a certain amount of slip, otherwise it can cause transmission windup.....not good.

The third gen has the same rear window, you can still shift lengths of timber with it.

Im a 2nd gen fan!! Gotta be honest.

I know the 3rd gen is a 'better' truck etc. but for looks... 2nd gen wins.

Im a 3rd gen owner & i love it, but if i'd have been on a tighter budget it would'nt have put me off buying a 2nd gen, just as good, make sure you get the 3 litre though.
Which ever one you choose im sure you will be happy, try get one thats not been in the country for long, they tend to be mint especially the chassis.
                            good luck.
If its not broke don't fix it.
