Anyone fitted a CB radio into their surf? where did you mount your antenna? I've been using CB radios for years although it has gone quiet over recent years, now I have a 12v vehicle I was going to put one in & just wondered how others had fitted them.

I have 2 uk block radios (soon to be obsolete) 1 midblock (cept) & a multi band, I was going to fit the little midland midblock & when I say little I mean about 6 inches x 4 inches x 1 inch.

    Cheers

Got a small springer on the bull bar, and a 5ft firestick copy on the spare wheel carrier with an aerial switcher inside, groundplane aint great on either though.

Previous smurf i had the springer mounted on the rear roof lip, groundplane was much better.

Thinking i may put the small springer back on the roof somewhere towards the front or get another firestick and cophase them on the rear pillars either side of the tailgate window.

Currently the Cb unit is stuffed down the side of the passenger seat between the seat and the centre cubby box, but may well end up back in the dash when i fit a single din stereo, only thing i didn't like with it in the dash (where kerrsurf's is) was the channel read out wasn't easy to read. I've seen roof consoles for CBs which i like, i have seen one for a surf, but can't remember where. i think popeye made his own aswell?

Toby, did you have too widen the ashtray section or remove anything from the rear of it, as that's where I intend to put my CB?

Would also like to know where to get a decent length aerial, all the ones on Ebay don't seem very long!

I did not have to widen it no..
I did cut the rear flap off but also left the top on so that if needs be the ashtray will fit back in...

The Midland 121, 38 and 98 will fit the ashtray the other ones are to big..
even the 78 will not fit....

But if for what ever reason u come down this way I'll be more than happy to help u fit it....

Cheers mate. I have a Midland 38 so it looks like I'm in luck! Still waiting for the aerial I bought from Ebay a week ago though, so it looks like this weekend to get it fitted.
