i am under the impression that satellite signals used for gps are of quite a high frequency.this would , im think, negate the signal from being able to be bounced, like the radio ham's "skip" where they can bounce waves between atmospheric layers.
are they not quite close to being microwaves andy ??
well at the bottom of mi post it dose say how they need to use more than one or it can not work very well
garmen are one of the oldest in the biz i think they have the most satalites anyhow
so i would say if they use them all for sat nave then they must be brill

look each satalite borrows or rents time from other satalite companys
just for this very reason the 22 degree angal
its safer easyer to bounce it from a satalite in space that obiting in the right place
Ref Sat nav speeds they only run at generic stats so if you have specific types they are all out & even if you are in a different location they act up...e.g i'm an italy with a US Satnav (tomtom ) & i do 10 kph faster than i was clocked the other day not much to grin about but cant trace the plates.............

which system is it that uses the usa military satellites,is it the one for satellite phones ??
but there is a system of satellites that are free to use , just cant remeber which application they are for.
do you have to pay a monthly sub for sat nav ??
if not how do they keep it runing if they have to rent satellite time ??
if you check satalites out it will say something like a 1000 are up there but there 99 other that are not for public use or for profit
some are owned privertly
other are owned by big corprat companys
a lot are owned by the usa but so do ussr and china japan
theres loads out there
and like its said 1 is very powerfull
think how much power there is in use up there ever second

Nope, Gra is right. The whole GPS network is owned by the US. It was originally a military thing, so it wouldn't surprise me if the US military still own the lot. Commercial companies would certainly not own them, and signals aren't sent from one to another (not for commercial navigation use anyhow). Its pretty simple really.
Each one your satnav is receiving reports its position to your satnav on the ground. Once your satnav sees enough of them, it can triangulate where it is. If signals were 'bent' by the atmosphere, or otherwise relayed, the system wouldn't work.

in my honest opinion
i would say with out cheching this out i can not say its full on right but it wont be for off
most companys that have got the money to start up a sat nav outfit
will be owned by a copany thats all ready into it
lets say its an iss company that means its owned by tsb halifax hsbc rbs
p&o ferrys british gas swanhuner boad yard axa insurance belfor sunlight systems arc and general seamans
man the list is endless and they are just of the top of my head
things like this are sub companys who own each other to save tax get bigger fat cat wages
while we the public think that we got a good deal by shoping around for
sata navs
cars
gas
elictricaty
insurance
banks
lenders
its a list like the other endless
i worked for iss for a few years it 2 dutch blokes and they own iss
it learnt me that there only us small men trying to urn a bob to get by
shoping around for the best bargin
and all along its coming from one place
big firms with money like that will just be sub companys
chech out companys house on google
go to there web site every company in the uk is on there
even mi old one is
it will show ya who owns the uk side of it
i would look but i have to go out very soon
