My PC is sorting itself out with the "windows XP service pack 3" but its taking a bl**dy age....

It was about 5:30-6:00 when i started it an its just got a black screen up saying "Microsoft Windows XP" an some other bits... like a start up screen!
an its been like that for hooours!!

Im not sure if its frozen or not!!?!?!

The problem is it's the pc with ALL my photos on it an nothing is backed up!!

Is it ok to just push the button on the tower an restart it?! or will i f**k everything up?!

For anti-virus software do a search for Avast anti-virus (Alwil Software). They do a home version which is free (although you need to register it) and very good.

FreeAV is an excellent piece of software, as is AVG.

They are both highly recommended, and find stuff that McAffee doesn't.

Can't say I've ever hear of Avast.

They're a big German software house - do serious corporate av stuff and seem to do the home version as a lead in to the stuff they charge for. Been using it for a while now at home and work and it seems to work real well. Also gets good reviews and recommendations from "experts"
