Have just bought a 94 4runner and want to put on a roof rack to carry a roof tent. Have seen Thule roof bars that fit into the door frames but are they strong enough to carry a 50kg roof tent. I have also seen a suggestion about fitting the 2 Thule bars then having 2 trailing bars all fastened with 12mm marine ply. Would prefer not to drill holes in the roof but is the roof strong enough to carry much weight. Am heading into the Sahara so I need to get it right. Any advise would be welcome.
