HELP! My car has been making a weird, intermittent clunking sound, esp going uphill and more so when I am turning left. I explained the sound to a friend and he said it could either be the CV joints or the main shaft... He has just had a look at it and said that he thinks that it is the main shaft (I have no idea what that is... but it sounds bad)

is it very bad and is it very expensive to get fixed????

Does it only happen when your turning a corner ...could just be your bump stops they sound really bad especialy if you turn a corner quickly!

tbh doin the circle test is the best way to check,if it clunks/clicks on left lock,then its o/s and vice versa for right,if it does it in straight line it will be an inner one

It's not a very loud noise, but you can hear it intermittently when driving slowly ( straight line or corners)

none really.it may require a good greasing

I have no idea, I only bought her in december. How often do you need to do it? Alan said that you know of a good garage in Eastbourne? Could you give me the details?

none really.it may require a good greasing

There was quite a lot of play in it, and it didn'y sound like there was any grease at all in there

its finmere road in eastbourne, but any garage should be able to do a grease service.it does need doing at least twice a year,and more if your mileage is high, or you offroad through water a lot
