One of those sat at our local scrappy for years, it was in pretty rough condition but not in the scrap pile, it was kept near one of the buildings, dunno if it's still there or not.

For most of the story read our website, follow the link , on the left hand labelled 150cm Searchlight.

For those that want a quick answer...It's a ww2 era 150cm searchlight that me and a friend have spent the last 6 years restoring.
Power comes from a 22Kw Lister Generator.
Light output - in the order of 0.8 Billion Candles (take your 18 million and come back when you've grown some!)
Light source - Carbon Arc (like for welding)
We got the searchlight after my mate saw it on an episode of Scrap Heap Challenge. (God, I wish he'd never seen it!)

During one trial the light was found to have penetrated 500 foot of cloud and illuminated a target at a height of 22,00 feet and seen by the fighter pilot over 18 miles away!

Nice touch with photo-shop by the way Tony

Generator runs at 90 Volts DC - 150 Amps
Arc Strikes at approx 270 Amps - rubber boots are strongly advised!!

Cable is 300 Amp welding - 2 core, no earth - YET!!
