  • Noobs Sticky?

I've noticed, as have many others, that there are a lot of newbies joining at the moment who are asking the same old questions.

I wonder if some of the more knowledgable members, with time on their hands, could come up with a noobs FAQ thread that could be made into a sticky?

I've seen these on other forums and perhaps it would reduce the amount of same old questions being asked. There could be sub sections on lifts, tyres, heads, what's the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens and our favourite, how many miles to the gallon will I get? (Oh and how much road tax will I pay?)

It would save having to keep on typing 'use the search facility' in reply to their questions.

Then again you could have a 'Newbies FAQ' sticky and the only thing in it would be -

'USE THE SEARCH FACILITY BEFORE ASKING ANY QUESTIONS!'
'Tis better to sting than to be stung!

What do you want ?? A forum or a technical library ?. If a thread or a post bores you, dont read it. If its a repeat of an often asked question, you can either answer it or ignore it.
I personally think that all this is part of the "charm" of this forum. The Search facility is fine but its making the post and getting a friendly answer that brings people in and makes them feel that they belong. There is of course nothing wrong in politely answering a question and then politely informing someone of how useful the search facility can be. Sometimes todays newbie question gives yesterdays newbie an opportunity to answer and display his new found knowledge.
I personally remain unimpressed by those responses that consist of shouting USE THE SEARCH BUTTON. In essence I dont beleive that a sticky for newbies is either necessary or good. How do you start it ??

Item 1- OK new guy, dont dare post or ask a question untill youve read everything RIGHT.

Item 2- If you dare pose a question or put something that has been posted before ( and we dont care how long ago) you will be shouted at so watch it OK.

we should have a 1st stop section like as seen on some other forums. this really helps when people have got here via a search engine, and read some posts and need to ask questions.
            see my signature

as long as this is in another well kept tidied part of the site, and locked it will explain all thats needed without noobs adding more to it.

I suggested this ages ago and got told to stand in the corner and stop being so rude to the new people - and that "you were new once, you know" and I admit to having been one of the many who have asked the "what does this red button...." - no, I never had to ask that - someone told me.....

Ask away new people, but introduce yourselves first!

Noobs are there for the sole purpose of being the whores amusement. It's like the online equivalent of being the teaboy/gofer back in the good old days before H&S took over. If they don't ask annoying questions, how can they be wound up?

I read on this forum for about 6 months before posting a question to which I couldn't find an answer. It can be done. There really isn't any reason to ask about mpg or the red button.

These days though, I'll post whatever enters my head
