    who uses what and why?

    advantages and disadvantages.

I use IE on here because it's here and works, and firefox on the laptop my only quarrel with firefox is it displays animated gifs way too quick. and some flash games aswell run too fast (unplayably fast).

just tried safari as i'd heard a couple of people mention it, but i don't like it, text all looks fuzzy to me, like ie / firefox after a few pints.

don't really get what's special about any of them though, they all seem to be much of a muchness really

I work online, from home. I have a lap top and after having used firefox and IE i have stuck with IE for everything. I had all the problems that you had with firefox and gave up using it eventually and wouldn't go back to it. Also, what's up with Google? I have a google toolbar and wouldn't be without it.
Call me whatever but i spend 6 or 7 hours a day working and only use stuff that works. Lol.

        firefox all the way....
Highly customizable with many add on features and inc ad blocking which blocks 95% of adds on most sites, also very stable and secure

Prior to that i used maxathon which still run off the ie engine i think but was also very customizable but with the last few updates i found stability begining to be a issue

        ps ....ie sucks

Prefer firefox over internet explorer. Only used Safari a few times and didn't like it.

If I remember correctly, you can make Maxthon use either the IE or Mozilla engine. Same with Crazy Browser, I believe.

Firefox has the main benefit of security. IE is tied in to the OS so tightly that a theoretically minor flaw can become far worse than it should. Plus, the M$ concept of security is pathetically poor. FF/Mozilla is also updated more frequently, and due to being Open Source has a far better probability of bugs being found and sorted in no short fashion. M$ only tend to sort which bugs are literally stumbled upon, (due to it being closed source), or those which they see fit to fix.

Opera. Again, closed source but preferable to IE. Has its own set of quirks, but does the job quite well. Not a fan of it myself.

Safari is........, different. Use it if you must, but preferably not if you have a choice.

Most other browsers you will come across are just variations built upon the IE or Moz core. They each have their own strong and weak points.

My personal favourite is K-Meleon for day to day use on Windoze. Firefox for doing dev and/or design work, (due to its extensive range of plugins and addons), then Opera and the others are just for general testing purposes.

I use Firefox on the laptop and Opera on the desktop. I don't use IE because they stopped making it for macs. I don't use Safari because it's not very nice to look at and seems slower than Firefox. I probably prefer Firefox to Opera but have no rational reason for this.

usually with firefox it says that they can't open the web address, then i click ok and it opens...
