i even drove one with a front mount intercooler, it was better but still not quick tbh.

the older shape celica i drove had a standard intercooler (or should i say interwarmer) and was twice as fast if you drove it from cold.

imho - stay away :/ too much hastle with aspiration over their dodgy 4wd system, and not a performance car. sorry.

if you want something cheap and quick, get a scooby. i know almost every chav with a credit card has one, but at the end of the day if you choose the right one then you have a decent family motor, thats quick and cheap, especially if you get the wrx import. we thrashed an m5 with that, and it was stock turbo, intercooler, heads with different air filter and full 3" exhaust.

You COMPLETELY miss the point - as do a lot of 'youngsters'

Its not about going megafast, and I too have driven GT Fours. They were fast for their time, but feel rock solid so dont convey a great impression of speed, granted.

Would I have a GTR by Nissan/Intel or a UrQuattro? The Quattro any day. Probably a fair bit slower.

Would I have a FQ400 odd, or a Lancia Integrale? The Integrale every time. Also a fair bit slower.

A Scooby or a MK1 MR2? The Mk1, no question. No comparison in the horsepower stakes.

Why? I like interesting cars. Cars that started something. Maybe its my age. I'm not interested in being able to go to the pub and play horsepower top-trumps with my baseball hat wearing mates. Not interested in how many intercoolers I can light up with blue LEDs. I like to sit and look at them, and consider how they came about. I just think the current crop are characterless, pointlessly powerful boxes for the playstation generation.

STILL rather have the Celica, with all its excess weight and early stab at four wheel drive for a sports car because it is GORGEOUS and turns heads including mine. I forget the last time I looked at an Impreza, they're the 2008 Ford Escort. Everyone's got one.

@BDT - I aint falling out with him. He's young. He'll learn. I'm right. No question

        i dont want to!
my opinion is purley my opinion. im basing that on about 3000 other cars i have driven,
i even drove a 740 to kent and back once, i liked it, but didnt like the fact the windows went up by themselves once you reached 140
however, im done being childish and immature now (i think) and ive settled for a surf that barely does 80

i had a fiesta that did 14 seconds 1/4, on twin 40's, i only sold it because it got to the point every time i was going out i was getting pulled over. the carbs barked so much it always sounded like i was caining it. scared a dog once when i pulled away at some lights. you had to keep tapping the throttle to control the paddle clutch. that was probably the best thing i ever bought for that car.
it would beat my mates 300hp impreza on a 1/4 mile,
the torque steer was immense, you had to pre-empt the a wheel losing grip so you could turn the steering wheel to counteract it.

before i got rid i should have replaced the lsd with a stock one, and welded it up to lock it. i would never have been able to park it after that but it would have been safer to drive, and had better 1/4 times
        Oh Nana, what's my name?

          i agree with you!

what i liked a lot about my fiesta (laugh as you will, but it was a mk1 supersport, and was a classic show car, had been in classic ford numerous times as the photographers who were there for the anglias and escorts had to get the ONLY mk1 fiesta about at that time)
well what i liked most was when we would drive up to box hill for a decent bit of grub and then a casual drive back.

there was NO heating, NO stereo, just 2 recaro seats, a rock solid roll cage, a dash board, smallest steering wheel i could find, 4 point harness and an engine i rebuilt myself. every bolt i had held, every bearing, the camshaft i carefully slid in, the cam timing i spent a whole night doing, re-doing and double checking.
and when you drove that normally it sounded like gargling water. you could hear each valve sucking in air.
i even advanced the cam timing once so that i could get a different power band, that was interesting as it made the carbs about 10x louder and the exhaust quieter.

what im saying is, i understand your point. and there is absolutely no car that does that for me, the surf does. well, my red one does / did. but the idiot drivers round here take the pleasure out of driving. thats why my surf is the way it is, as i now refuse to slam on my brakes for some foreigners mistake, or make illegal swerves
may be im going off the point here lol

Have you REALLY driven 1.3 different cars every day, including weekends, bank holidays and christmas for the last 6 years??? Either you haven't really, or you're not really 23.

I like the big Volvos. Had a T5 hire car once. A proper wolf in sheeps clothing. Prefer the V70 TD though... I'd have one of them if I wanted a decent sized estate.
