  • Changing ATF for n00bs req.

Right, In a desperate attempt to get the truck in tip top shape for Monster mania, Im getting the ATF fluid changed.

Is there a filter an will it need cleaning/changing?

also, without doing the two pipes in two buckets method how do you drain the entire system?!

    cheers!

Only one bucket needed and there is a filter inside, well it's more of a strainer than a filter and you'll need to remove the pan to get at it antway. Unless your truck has a huuuuuge amount of miles on it, leave it alone.

          Cheers guys!!

My ATF has been a bit manky for little while so i think a change would be good before the trek to kent!

Anyway, I've read this link on how to do this so I'm all set execpt...

Where to you put the new fluid in (Seems an obivous question i know...)

            Thanks,

Down the dipstick tube (it's messy but true)

Do what i do mate its much less hassle & mess.

Leave the truck on a level surface over night so that most of ATF is in the sump. Drain ATF into a bucket & calculate how much has come out, normally 6 litres, replace sump nut & refill. There will be about 4 litres of the old stuff still in the trans. To make life easier for myself i have started changing the ATF every time i do an engine oil change, that way its getting a continuous flush every 4000 miles. Once you've done that a couple of times the ATF looks a nice red color all the time.

I would take bushwhacker's advice & avoid taking it to bits cos you will only regret it, trust me on that.

                hope this helps
If its not broke don't fix it.

small funnel bit of 3/8 fuel hose, hold the funnel up by wedging it between fuel lines.....easy
