  • Tailgate !

    Any clues fella's ........
Tailgate window works from switch and key, (repaired broken wire about 9 months ago been fine since)
Lately it has been struggling to go up, but goes down smoothly and easily.
Now it wont go up without a hand.
All the gearing (teeth) seem to be in very good condition, so why only a proplem up but not down?????????????????
    All help gratefully recieved!
PS tesco 15ltr KTC @£14.97 today, cheapest i could find!

It 'could' be the relay is dodgy, up relay sometimes fails because of extra strain on the motor, easy to get from Maplins. Extra strain on motor can be caused by sticky window rubbers and corrosion of the runners.

Cheers Alan, are they the relays hidden away behind the interior panel?
Maplins is local so i,ll try that.

that set of relays behind the panel is bl00dy hard to get at, i was thinking of cutting the panel out and fitting some sort of cover/door, i hate stuff like this buried behind panels, all relays/fuses should be easy to reach i reccon

It is a pain to get to, relays need to be unsoldered from panel and new ones re-soldered, so not just a matter of unplugging them.

I would check condition of motor drive plate first as this is the most common cause of failure, if it's ok check wiring and then check relays.

Just been playing about with it! (the window!!!!!)
Now it wont come down on the key at all!!!!!!!!!!!
When the window gets stuck (up and down now, wont shut without a push) the motor sounds like its still runnig, but something stops the glass moving and you can hear a loud clicking from the mechanism(too loud for a relay)

The drive has worn or separated.
Just changed mine today get a motor from the passenger door of a
mk11 mr2, corrolla or hiace van.

You can re glue it and screw self tappers into it, but your as well just sawpping for a decent second hand motor.

A passenger door one wont have seen much use and it slots straight in.
The drive door ones need to be rotated to fit, and will have seen plenty of use

                          8mm ratchet spanner 5min job
