    Hi, I read up loads before finally buying and it was a toss up between a Kona Blast or the GT Avalanche 1.0. Both were in the top 3 of mountain bikes under £500 review by MBR magazine. I tried both out and opted for the Avalanche which seemed to suit me best.

    Here's a link for the Avalanche, it's had some very good reviews by riders.

          cadnam to lyndhurst to brockenhurst to lymington no sweat only takes 5/10 mins more than my truck too

                Using your numbers, it works OK. I'm a lowish mileage guy these days (work is 5 mile round trip) so a second cheap to run car wouldn't be economically viable.

                The more miles you do, the more sense it makes though - obviously.

                (We also have Vicki's Polo for long runs)
