I am keeping mine too (subject to MOT at lunchtime), no I am as it is GREAT!

First MOT since I brought it last summer but drives great so fingers crossed the examiner is having a good day.

However soooo tempted by the 2.7 petrol in for sale section...but what would i really be getting for my truck plus about £4k at todays money. Ok apart from AC and ABS and slightly better bodywork and auto box and air bags....
anything else that would make the 2.7 better than the 94 4 runner?

Mine isn't going anywhere! Yes, its depressing as you watch the fuel needle rapidly heading towards E as you drive up the motorway, Yes it has worse than half the mpg of the car I swapped for it buuuuttt..... I have never had so much fun in a car I've owned and the grin shows so sign of going!

Easy solution. Dont use motorways, keep your speed down, use as lighter right foot.

I'm trying to convince my father to buy mine, so I can afford Rabbitts. He doesn't appear to be going for it, so I guess I'll just have to put her through the MOT, and keep her for a few more years yet.

No choice really there is nothing out there that will take the abuse. Plus there's that grin you get when driving.

Motorways are actually the best place to conserve fuel, provided you drive at an optimal speed. Moving a vehicle from a standing start probably uses more fuel than any other standard driving action, which is why city driving is thirstier, so to speak.

Not the motorways I have to drive on Matt.

Maybe up there in the frozen wastes they flow reasonably, but the M5 / M6 junction area is much more stop start than most A roads.

Plus I just hate motorways - sitting shoulder to shoulder with reps in their repmobiles. Much rather use the rural A roads where I can look over hedges etc

Ah. I'd forgotten the conditions of the motorways you southern wusses have to endure.

Same here. Only use motorways when it's by far the easiest or shortest option. Motorways are like ignorant muppet magnets ain't they.

Keeping mine as long as they don't raise the tax to £445 as they are rumoured to do (or maybe not, I read that Mr Darling is bottling out).

It would mean paying £1335 a year for my car, which I need as it does 45mpg, my wifes Galaxy, which she needs, 2 daughters, 3 grandkids and an aged mother who all need transporting here and there and the Surf.

I think I'd still try and hold on to it though as I don't smoke, which would cost in excess of £35 a week on 20 a day. so My arguement is I would rather spend £35 a week to keep the Surf than smoke 20 fags a day.

Sorry if my info is wrong regarding the tax but I'm sure I read they were extending the range beyond 2001?

No idea whether it is correct or not, but if they tried that one, I can honestly say I'd rather end up in court than bend over any more for this thieving bunch of scumbags which are in power.
