Prob only a few months. Must admit the sight of a trailer with my horse in it trying to overtake me sideways would freak the living daylights out of me.Originally posted by Predictable Bob View Post
It's all conjecture but if she's a slow driver normally then I'd guess at a blow out causing the initial instability compounded by braking. How many years has she been towing ?

Brand new - only been out in it a couple of times.Originally posted by Predictable Bob View Post
Do you know anything about the trailer ? Age, tyre condition etc ?
The big problem with caravans and trailers is that they don't do much mileage so the tyres fail through age rather than wear

Bugger - that's probably blown most theory's out then - unless it was a defective tyre .....
You said it had two blown tyres - was it a twin axle and were the blown tyres on the same side ?

Oh and her....oopsHow can I be lost when I've got no where to go

That sucks, glad everyone was OK.
Linda had a brand new twin axle trailer turn over on her years ago, only going slowly, with a borrowed large tow car. She's never put her horses in one since, always had a lorry since.
It really shakes you up, shes a terrible passenger with any sort of trailer on the back of a truck know.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

Thanks mate - I could never tow mine - bad enough as a passenger so I know exactly how Linda feels.Originally posted by TonyN View PostThat sucks, glad everyone was OK.

hmmm, probably shouldn't have opened this thread! i've just bought a copy of that trailer - silver Ifor Williams - although mine is a 505, not a 510. I pick it up on Tue brand new. I've never towed and only had the truck a month and it scares the life out of me. I'm a very confident driver, but I think things might be different with my horses on the back.
Really glad your friend and the horses are ok - that could have been so much worse.

I am sure you will be fine - both horses got away with just grazes so says alot about the strength of the trailer. As you can see it is on its roof and still they walked away.Originally posted by Nikki View Posthmmm, probably shouldn't have opened this thread! i've just bought a copy of that trailer - silver Ifor Williams - although mine is a 505, not a 510. I am sure there are loads of pics of Surfs on their roof - wouldn't stop you driving though. Get some lessons and I am sure you will be fine.

hehe, don't worry mate, I love towing trailers, its just life, things happen. Just rememebr with 2 big horses in a trailer the center of gravity is amazing high up a trailer. if you doing any speed round a bend, then add a dobbin doing something silly like moving and leaning heavily on the side of the trailer and you can see how things get out of hand quickly.Originally posted by Nikki View Posthmmm, probably shouldn't have opened this thread! i've just bought a copy of that trailer - silver Ifor Williams - although mine is a 505, not a 510. Just take it slow and easy round any bend, and never let anyone hassle you into driving quickly, Its like having a ton weight on your roof rack, then trying to go round corners like normal.
The advantages still out weigh not being able to move your horse.

Good sensible stuff from Tony as usual !
The only thing I'd add is if the trailer starts to snake do NOT apply the brakes - just take your foot off the throttle and try to avoid hitting anything
PS
If it's at all possible fit a stabiliser - they're not foolproof but they help
Life is too important to take seriously !
