  • any special paint primer / laquer needed on our surfs?

the warm dry weather has finally motivated me to deal with rusty door bottoms on the 4runner

i am removing rust by grinding and wirebrush on drill -
i will put primer on first, then paint - then clear laquer

i seem to remember there are differnt types of primer/laquer - acrylic?cellulose?

what type is compatible with the paint on our trucks??

    Hi

Once you have finished sanding down the rust buy some Phosphoric acid. A gallon would do you a life time so you don't need much. Let it dry on the surface and then prime the vehicle you could buy water based base coat and acrylic laquor to finish.

I prefer Octobase 1:1 colour no 2030-3J8 wine red pearl-1
    Luverly colour.

I use octocryl laquor and thinners

Use 500 wet and dry and make sure you warm the paint and panel before applying the paint.

As you spray on the first tacking coat keep spraying a piece of card at the same time and leave it till your finger sticks to the paint on the card rather than sliding. keep applying the paint till you get a nice even coat.

Before finishing spray the last coat with 70% thinners to the laquor for a deep shine but go easy take your time and enjoy.

Best to buy a pack of tack rags to wipe off the paint surface just prior to spraying.

and use an acetone wipe to ensure there's no oil residue on the job prior to tack ragging.

    Cheers JB

It's a good start but it needs a coat or two of mud to bring out the best
