"The top five 4X4 sellers in May were the Honda CR-V, Land Rover Freelander, Toyota Rav4, the new Volkswagen Tiguan and the Land Rover Discovery."

none of these will see mud unless they take a wrong turn on a wee sunday drive.

Gotta love these idiots - if they looked at the sales figures for the past 5 years, would they see the same trend??? Seasonal variation plays a significant part in the overall popularity of the vehicle too - not just fuel price....

Oh well, 18% reduction from last year....in the new car market - let's not forget that the constantly media hyped and managed credit crunch has actually effected sales of almost everything, and the rise in sales of smaller cars is because every company is making them now, and they are used as second cars - or for new drivers - great bit of narrow minded, badly researched targetted media....as usual!

                  'monstrosities.....' - hahahahaha

                    And....

Without being muppets, tell me the difference, really, between a Honda CR-V and a Vauxhall Agrivator....emissions are broadly similar, size is practically identical, just one is slightly taller (by about an inch) and has automatic, electronically controlled 4WD, but is front wheel drive most of the time.....

Executive saloons - up 10.9% - nice how that was missed out on the document, as they are bigger in width and length than most of the 'hated' vehicles they are referring to - and usually have higher emissions......well overlooked!

It's one of the things that really irritates me - let's all overlook other massive polluters, ignore the fact that a car driven at 80 chucks out 25% more emissions than the same car driven at 70 (TopGear, not me) - and that most '4x4's don't get driven fast, are high enough to see a clearer view of the road, are in most cases driven by far more alert and concienscous drivers than sports cars or executive saloons, take up the same road space as a decent sized car - noone moans about Volvo S60s do they?? The Surf is the same length and width, give or take a cm or two....

Gas guzzlers - come on! Noddy vehicles, monstrosities.....what do these people drive?? Should they take a moment to realise it's got cock all to do with them what other people drive - and heaven forbid they may actually need someone with a 4x4 to help them one day - or see if they realise how many of these 'monstrosities' are used by the emergency services.....

4x4 is such a badly used, misaligned, poorly thought out and wholly misleading term for a type of vehicle - do these people have the same issues with drivers of let's say, black cabs? white vans, people carriers, BMW 7 series, Merc S class, Jags, Rovers blah blah blah???? Probably not. They don't like BMW X5s, Discovery 3s and Range Rovers, not to mention a Porsche Cayenne or VW Toureg, or Merc ML or GL......why?? Because they haven't got one, they THINK they are the worst offenders of polluting the environment (not their 20 year old Ford Escort estate or Sierra) - they don't realise that the more modern vehilces emit cleaner air in citys than they draw in.....check the Honda website for info on the with the CR-V and HR-V.....

If they really have an issue, i'd much rather they researched it properly, got off the bandwagon and came up with better, more substantial arguments - until then, they can all sod off.....

But #### it they're the media they decide what people think, my comment left last night, despite being at least partially factual, probably moreso than that story, ain't what they want people to read
