about 2 mins away from me, it's called lakeside. Went and played down there when we had the bad weather and it was fast enough to try and take the back end of the truck round

The ford at Stamfordham, where a lot of last years Weardale 'Surfers' drove through on the Sunday, is now closed.

The reason is because quite a few 4x4 owners thought their trucks were stronger than the river and were proved wrong! Many cars and vans have also been caught out when they also thought it would be fun to drive through a fast flowing ford.

The cost of rescuing the above vehicles and drivers proved too great and now the ford is permanently closed. The thing is experienced drivers knew when the risk was too great and drove the whole estra mile to the bridge.

the good thing about that ford is it has a concrete base, and on both sides so with heavy water you can still get grip

Wasn't a dig at you Neil, just a bit of info.

The Stamforham ford was also concrete based, it was the lack of common sense by some drivers that was the problem!
