Any gas struts from a similar sized/weight bonnet will work I guess.

          Thanks Mr Hainth.
I fitted them without damaging the paint on the bonnet (top), just a small amount of welding to secure the mounting plates, and a couple of pieces of angle iron along the wing edges.

bushwacker, vince, if you want to gain a few more horse power build a box around the air induction cone so it can only draw in cold air from outside rather than the heated air from under the bonnet,in fact using the original air filter with the front cut out placed in the same box would be most benificial this is a proven fact on the 1uz-fe engine, there is quite a write up of the experiments done to gain more power from the engine using this technique on "planet soarer" which is an austalian site. up to an extra 20 bhp can be gained using this air intake dependant on the amount of air available along with using quite a free exhaust system which must have a balance pipe or the "x" centre of the original exhaust. do not use any catalitic converters.

Yeah, that is the next on the 'to do' list. It's quite noisey at the moment so I've got some sheet ally to make up a 'cold box'

I've eliminated all 'Cats' and the E.G.R system, and the two downpipes merge into one just before a short stubby muffler. This will do just to get it through the MOT, later on this year I'll get a custom 2.5" into 3" sytem made up.

I read up on exhaust configurations on Lextreme.com. Apparently a balanced system is better for performance and sound plus a minimum of 2.5" bore.
