by the time you change all the markers, increase its cetane rating and dye it,you may as well just use red and redex and shoite yourself at every road block

          would just cost to much
          Non intercooled nothing.

the red dye is added after clarification, charlie is right there is an amount of chemical marker that shows what the original fuel is/was,mostly though the grade marker will give the game away
I do not think there is much difference apart from perhaps slightly less sulphur in the fuel classed as DERV or road diesel or white diesel as compared to red or rebated fuel.

The reason I say this is most of the common diesel engines used on the road are also marinised and used for marine use in one form or other.
By this I mean for either propulsion or generation.
ie Ford, Volvo, Audi VW, Cummins, GM, BMW, etc etc etc.
I do not think the makers would cover the engines by warranty nor would the clasification society DNV, LLoyds, or ABS allow passengers and cargo to be carried if there was to be the slightest risk of malfunction due to inferior fuel.
The engines are much harder worked in a marine environment then in a automotive application.
My boat had two Sabre turbo engines (based on the six cylinder Ford 2704 ET 400cu in)
The engines cost new £21,000 each and produced close to 400hp max. each at 3800rpm and were rated at 375 hp at 100% duty cycle for commercial use.
This is much more than the automotive hp which was rated at 285 hp at 4200 rpm.
I cannot see this rating being given if the fuel was inferior in any way.
                            But I could be wrong.

                            Mike
