Rocker breather

My rocker cover breather pipe is throwing oil into my air intake, what could be causing this? It was pouring out clouds of smoke so i now disconected the pipe from the inlet and drove down the road with more power and no smoke. but on reopening the bonnet the top of the rocker had been coated in oil.
