throttle stuck

i know this should be in the tech section but just need a quick reply.I had a email from a mate who has a prob with the throttle sticking open and wont close.heres the email he sent so if someone has an idea what the problem may be so i can pass the info on it would be great.thanks all

I was driving home in my 2.4 Auto, booted it to overtake a crawler and the throttle stuck wide open!! I had to turn off at the key and then wrestle the car into a layby. The maximum revs caused major overheating in a (worryingly) short space of time but my main concern at the moment is the jammed throttle which neither I nor the AA school leaver could budge.

Have you ever heard of this happening before? If you do have any ideas/suggestions could you please put them in terms for a technical retard.

if the cable hasnt stuck. it could be the throttle body and if thats not sticking i would have a look at the tps switch.

ask him if he has topped the oil up, sounds like he was running on his sump.
