Hi - I shortly will have a project surf ariving which the big end has gone on.

I have located a new block and the head is good on this one.

Having never touched the insides of an engine before please could you advise - would it be easier to take it all out - build on the ground and then drop complete back in - OR build as you go??

Any tips or tricks would be greatfully received - thanks

the short block is heavy enough but if you have a good hoist and some willing hands to help to manovre it back in I would build as much as you can out, including the pipes on the back of the head, I found them a s0d to get to. whatever you decide, shrink your hands, get your wrists and elbows double jointed, have scuff proof knuckles and issue ear plugs to anyone within a 5 mile radius - other than that, piece of cake.
If you do your head bolts up to 1st torque and leave the final 2 tightenings to once the motor is in I think it will save you chasing the motor round the bench!
Did I mention I have a BLUE one
