  • Oil Change intervals.

Am thinking about oil and filter change, Trucks done about 2000 miles since last one, is this a tad overboard or a good idea. My Surfs done 111,000. Also is 10w 40 semi synthectic the right oil.

Oil should be changed every 5000km and filters every 10000km according to toyota

thought the interval was a bout 5,000miles??? or maybe 5,000kms??? wouldn't hurt to do as regular as you feel like doing it though. bit smokey is it or has something else prompted the change?
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

I do mine every 3000 miles..That includes oil and air filter..The fuel filter I tend to leave much longer. 10/40 semi synthetic is the right stuff..I'm not sure how much better Magnatec is, if any better..but every now and then I get a brain storm and splash out..

I'm gonna try a new trick next week..Change the oil, run it, then drain the whole lot out before filling up again..I just want the satisfaction of seeing "clean" oil on the dipstick, even if it lasts a day!

My mate runs his Cherokee on gas..His oil stays amber indefinitely!

Air filter at 3000 is a bit generous .

i'll be changing my oil and filter this week too ! its done 7000k's since last one ! after all its the lifeblood of the engine ! it costs about £20.00 for the oil and twenty mins to change it ! the cost isn't even worth thinking about given the price/amount of fuel i whack through the beast ! ! !

i change mine every 3 months - oil and filter. oil about 6 litres to get the F on dipstick, then once ran and check again - the level is above half on the dipstick.
I use Duckhams 10-40 semi synth - as it was cheap at makro - 25l drum for £19.99.

There IS a reason but not one based on logic admittedly. When I change the air filter, the car runs alot better, and that is true wether i change it after two miles, or two thousand..In fact, it has nothing to do with the filter whatsoever, but the change has become habitual [oh dear, this is sounding like one of those obsessive compulsive dissorders].

My airbox, since the day I purchased the car five or so years ago has resonated..I've posted about it a few times, assuming different "problems"..I started to realise it only did it every now and then, and after probing and prodding, it became clear it was the filter vibrating within the box, and not the box vibrating off its own accord.

I had been using Milner's filters at the time [early days], and using the search, an "issue" became apparent..Some Surf owners had complained that a batch of Milner's air filters were undersized, and prone to dancing around in the airbox.."ahaaaa" methinks..

So I changed to Roughtrax..She ran smooth and sweet, for ten days..Then that filter began resonating too...Open the box, spin the filter, close the box...Cured!For five more days. Sometimes if you pop the lid, you can see the filter reverberating, then suddenly it just stops, and everything sounds sooo much nicer..

The filter change just became an ongoing thing, through assuming any subsequent batch might be a tighter fit..None ever have been..Talking to an AA man who had once owned a surf, his was so bad, he'd modified the box, yet i've never read a post where this has been an issue, other than the brief Milner's saga!

I even bought one of the snazzy looking blue flexi pipes that run from the box to the solid black pipe..Maybe i had a small split in the old convaluted rubber one?..no change..

In fact, things have moved on..My filter box has resonated itself to the point the mounting bracket has fractured..I believe in aviation terms, its called stress fatique?..Its all held together with gaffer tape...You should hear it now! Mind you, if i get the wife to lean against the nearside wing, the noise stops

                          Is anyone still reading?

An amusing read, but all your woes can be solved with judicious application of silicone.
