  • Winch cable fixing???

Frayed a couple of strands on my winch cable yesterday so will need to cut the first 10ft off cable. Is there a kit available to secure cable to re attach hook.????

    Cheers.

I've not heard of one, and to be honest, from a H & S point of view, I'd get it done proffessionally, or if it's only a couple of strands out of 100 then gaffer tape it up until it gets worse, then get it done by the pro's.

      smiffy.
do an internet search.there used to be a firm near me called marlow ropes who would attach fixings to any type of rope, but alas they are no more.with a wire rope, you can trim them and have a new fixing pressed on,but you will need access to a really big press

I'd have thought the manufacturers of the winch could do it, or possible a crane/plant service firm, there must be someone on here who works for a plant service firm.

it'll need a new ferrule pressing on to reform the loop where the hook is, find a local specialist and it'll take em a matter of minutes to do and probably only cost you a couple of quid, if they have the access you probably won't even have to take the cable off the drum.

I'll take truck down to local plant hire/fabricators place and see what they say then. Those U bolt things look the job though
