  • 2nd Tank for Veg?

    Hi guys,

having had my Surf 2nd Gen 3.0 Deisel (1994) for three weeks or so I have begun considering Modifications. The one thing I am considering is the two Tank Deisel/veg system sold by DeiselVeg (the reason I'm not to happy with the Idea of Tank Mixing is because I do a short 4 mile trip everyday into work and don't think the engine will heat up enough in this time to begin heating veg; but i do lots of other mileage which will use the veg but not on a daily basis) Has anyone done this? would they recomend this? and has anyone fitted the 2nd under the the back load bed? if so how do you fill the secound tank and how many litres is it and did you put veg or Dino in it?

also did you fit it yourself? if so was it difficult?

    Cheers

I run 70% veg oil mix all the time higher in the summer and when I forget to put diesel in. Mine warms up within a mile and runs fine during the winter quicker in the summer. If you have not tried it maybe do a test run on veg oil before you go to the lengths of faffing around fitting tanks. Also may be worth sourcing a supply first a supper markets can be hit and miss.

Forgot to add I have no mods or extra tank!

I run an inline heater on mine, was on 100% over the summer. Go down to about 75% in the winter, maybe a little less if there's a cold snap. This is the unit I bought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vegetable-Oil-...QQcmdZViewItem

I've had my 3.0 a couple of months now and been running it at about 40% veg (supermarket bought) starts and runs fine and temp gauge up to temp in about a mile, only problem I have at the moment is I've blown the top seat on the pump, must get around to ordering a seal kit from milners...

couple of people have said the 3.0 shouldn't be run on more than 50/50 but I guess this would be without an in line heater....

oh and another thing, needed fuel yesterday but didn't have time to get veg so running ~90% dino and it's undoubtedly got more go, not a big surprise seen as dino has a higher calorific value

Started a second tank a while ago and still aint finished it, most of the stuff's in there, but not happy with the "cheapo" changeover motor valve so meanwhile, still mixeing it with derv,

                        Go For It

Just had my 1997 3.0 ssrg converted by Diesel Veg they did the fit very pleased all went ok and was fitted in a day by them. I got the kit and was going to fit myself then changed my mind when I got the kit delivered more complex than I expected. Done about 700 miles so far and no problems. I also got 1000 litres of refurbished veg oil off them so take your trailer with you. When I contacted my insurance company to inform them of the alteration no problem when I posted the letter from Diesel Veg explaining the conversion. If you are thinking of doing it drop a line and I will go over a couple of points.
