when i did some work up at cruden bay and brekin for bp, i was told that the main reason for the north sea oil not being used by britain was because our refineries could not handle a "thin" crude oil, middle east oil is like tar, north sea is like diesel hence it went to the continent as they had the refineries to proccess it.
Breakdowntruck - did you ever get those crystal indicators? Saw an old thread of yours and wondered
I am thinking of getting the clear bumper & side indicators & rear lights for my 3rd gen from roughtrax but not sure if they are any good or road legal as it doesn't say
Don't want to spend £200 and have to scrap them on MOT day!

100% of the oil that comes down that pipeline goes to a custom built stabilisation/separation/fractionation unit at Kinneil near Grangemouth. Whoever told you that it was too 'thin' is gibbering. Crude is always much the same texture, it's the sulphur content that defines it as sweet or sour.
Once processed at KInneil, the oil is either sent to Dalmeny or Finnart for export or the Ineos refinery in Grangemouth for further processing. The gas is much the same, either sent for export or to Ineos for procesing.

Diesel is a lightish cut, you don't want to get involved with heavy fuel oils!
