Veg oil and Paintwork.... One for the Shineys!

I had a quick search and couldn't find anything on the topic so..........

Does spilt Veg oil wreck paintwork??? I vegged up last night and totally cocked up (Mice chomped my plastic veg funnel making life harder, maybe they like the taste?)

Anyway I cleaned it off fairly half heartedly.. Should I be scrubbing the stuff off it gets on the paint or will it do no damage at all?

Dont think it affects the paint but dont pay to leave it on there too long (weeks) as it seems to turn to a gooey film thats harder to get off, (stick your hand on any flat surface in any indian reasurant and you'll see what i mean), washing up liquid neat'll get it off, dumped it all over mine the other day, funnell slipped

Warm soapy water straight away or a dab of T-Cut within a couple of days clears it no problem.

I addressed an issue like this on Monday, have had a lot of split veg oil living on the side of my truck for months. Used some tar and glue remover and some vigerous arm movements and it came off easily. No damge to the paint as seen yet.

I used a cloth with detergent and hosed it off so that should be ok..

At least it won't cause damage!

Cover it over with a good layer of Mud, should be fine

or cover with layer of mud first then fill up

If you do use washing up liquid , make sure you re-wax afterwards as the detergent isn't the same mix as car shampoo and strips all polish and wax off and when you get it muddy this becomes organic rubbing compound !

I had about 4 months worth of buildup on mine. I tried warm soapy water and neat washing-up liquid with no joy. Popped into Tesco and picked up some Cillit Bang grease remover. Worked a treat!

No signs of damage to the paintwork, but it is due a good wash and wax soon. Actually, it's due a rub-down, small bit of body filler, undercoat, paint, lacquer, and wax - but that's a different story.

I use 1 litre bottles & always get a certain amount of dribblage

I find the Hal'sFrauds insect & tar remover spray does a good job of taking spilled veg oil off.
