  • 4 x 4 Response group

A while back a few of us were talking about starting a south east section of the National 4x4 Response group!
When we checked the national site we found several people in the kent area are starting one themselves!
I registered an interest on behalf of Kent & sussex surfers. Then they talked of making thier group Kent and Essex, until they were told of several Essex 4x4 groups already doing this job.
So When i last checked in with them they were progressing slowly and talked about being glad of the interest from the sussex crowd.

well they have finally decided on the name for thier group KATER ! Kent And Thames Estuary 4X4 response group.

Guess they dont want sussex involved after all!!!!!

For any of you kent surfers interseted in this group

You'd be better off starting your own, as you were intending to do initially. Granted, there may be a fair old wait and decent amount of paperwork involved, but at least you know you'll not get stuck with someone elses p1ssy ideas on how things should be run and organised. If you browse a few of the respective websites and/or forums for some of those response teams, you'll see what I mean.

What costs are incurred during the initial setup? Time/work wise, wouldn't you be able to spread the load, so to speak? Nero was one of the others interested in the idea, wasn't he? Surely if there are several of you to start with, you could share the paperwork workload?

4x4 response teams are ancillary backup teams, for essential and rescue services. Say, for example, lifeboat teams are expecting severe floods and think they will be undermanned for groundwork, they'll put the teams on response alert status. It covers pretty much anything. Doctors in rural areas who need to get to patients, providing backup to police/ambulance/rescue teams if terrain may be a limiting factor for their equipment. The list goes on.

Are there many mountains in Kent?

Seems to be more like a kind of 'Runner' service rather than a rescue service?

I thought about joining such a group, but as yet there hasn't been one in the SE of UK, and also I'm in the same boat as Tintin, in that my free time is limited, and so is money ( I assume there is no recompense for fuel used during excersises) The cost of running these vehicles is getting prohibitive for the average person.
You could for instance use £50-£60 worth of fuel in a day/weekend on excersise.

As Matt says, if the group is run by bearded numpties, with no organisational skills or experience in such operations, it could all get a little frustrating.( no offense intended to those of you who have facial hair)

And of course the local authorities/law enforcement will have to accept/endorce the group.
                          Rob

                          Still working for the man!
