After having PCs for years, I now have a mac and I would never, ever change back.

The macs are faster and generally considered to be better, but are much more expensive.

Most professionals ( of all persuasions) tend to use macs, but the software may be more limited then with pc's and you won't be able to get stuff from pc world or comets cheap for it.

Ah well, if you insist. Peripheral wise, it uses standard bus architectures so they'll be fine. Driver wise, most kit comes with MacOSX drivers too these days. Software wise, the fact that it's BSD at heart means you can run any OpenSource software on it, theoretically.

I was going to say just that, but thought it may be a little hibrow, so I went for the "keep it simple" approach.

Anyway, Iv'e never been a fan of standard buses, I prefer the double deckers, but I don't think they come with drivers, you have to get them from an agency.

                        My tuppence worth...

Macs look fantastic, but MAC OS is just too weird for me! PCs look cr@p generally, but Windows is more stable than it used to be.

Having said that, I'd like a new iMac cos they're cool.

All the new pcs come with vista installed, and they still haven't got all the bugs out of it yet, and probably won't have it stable for another year, I don't know much about macs other than they're much more expensive, but hopefully will have less built in obselecense than the pc's.

I think laptops/notebooks are the way to go, as they are about as fast as the tower set ups, and you can still upgrade them pretty much the same.

Ive heard a lot of people mention that, its party the reason why im considering an iMAC.

That pretty much covers my usage.

Ive already found a CAD program that will suffice for its light work.
plus it will part of a home studio - the iMAC seems to just be a bit better at that.

if a pc has some issues running 100% smooth it can mess up big time.

PLUS - ive found software an seen videos on getting the mac OS to run windows.

so worse comes to worse i can run both on one machine.
Im into computer games but my 360 normally takes care of my gaming hobbies so realistically the mac would be internet / music / cad / recording music ... of which it seems more then cabable!

one thing - if i get an external hard drive an copy all my music files over, could i plug that into the mac an have access? or am i going to be screwed?

I'd stick with what you know! Of course it's a personal choice but I for one am lost when I sit in front of a Mac, and very much used to Windows - which I might add I've actually never had a problem, despite hearing complaints from others. Just scan the pc often and keep off the porn sites! I think that's where most people fail - then blame it on windows lol!

Also PC and windows is so widespread, it's cheaper to buy and more help available.

NOTE however stay away from Vista! When I get a new PC I'm getting one without it - otherwise I'll delete it then install XP again or learn how to use Linux (Ubuntu) - that's a cool system but I'd need to learn it's ins and outs.
