  • Yer stud's broke mate...

Just got the Surf back from Arnold Clarks in Stirling after getting the recall done.

Handed me a list of 7 safety critical items they said must be fixed along with an estimate of £1100 + parts + VAT for them to repair.

One of the items was £188 to replace a sheared wheel stud, one that they sheared! They said it sheared coming off, but it looks to me like it sheared when being tightened. Looking at it from the broken end, the swirl goes anti-clockwise, which when inverted will obviously be clockwise.

My question is, should I expect them to replace it FoC?

I had a rear wheel stud broken at tyre fitters, doddle to fix, about £4 from Roughtrax.

7 safety criticals would have me worried, what were they?

It's a front stud they broke.

      Engine oil leak
      Dirty paintwork (Yep, safety critical)
      Worn tyre, still legal
Rear ARB bushes (nearly £500 to repair!)
      Diff oil leak
      No service record
      Broken wheel stud

      Hardly critical in my book?

They broke the stud, they repair the stud.

Its arnold clark who told me for my citroen: brake strip down and clean for mot, they said "we have to cos its the age of the car" Needless to say i got the mot WITHOUT that £295 plus vat work being carried out.

CON ARTISTS, go somewhere else, a back lane mechanic

Will be done when I change the diff, 2 at the one time!

And they washed it, so that's 3.

Service record is a piece of nonsense, 4

                    Tyre is still legal, 5

So that leaves an engine oil leak which I think is the RC gasket and their broken stud.

Aparently it means there's no way of knowing if it was looked after before I bought it.

so for the £1400 quid will they sort the "no service history" issue.

I went to see them when i was thinking of buying an x-trail. turned out the nice pic in our local paper was of one in stock...in the group...wanted £300 deposit to bring it down from another branch so i could see it.....
I thought if that the pre sales attitude imagine what it would be like post sales when they had my money....

Front stud should be easy enough too.
