Imports and when to pay?

Hi, Ok so I am just about ready to get the process of an import started (likely with Algy's Autos - still looking for reviews anyone) however, their system is that you have to pay the cost of the car at auction in Japan upfront, then the rest of the fees upon arrival.

Is this normal practise? It's still a fair amount of money to hand over before the car is even shipped. Thanks.

Sounds normal to me, you wouldn't be popular if you arranged for an importer to find and purchase a Surf for you and then you say you've changed your mind.


Just make sure you get an official, signed receipt.


Algys are an OK bunch.

hehe now I read it like that it does sound like a bit of a silly question. Just have to treat it like a large deposit I guess. Cheers anyway, and thanks fo the input on Algys.

Has anyone got experience of Bonsai Cars? I nearly bought a Surf through them but the one I bid on went over my budget.
