Exactly what it says on the tin.

Anyone done it and got good advice on training and kit?

We are doing it in June so I have about 5 months to prepare.

I'm a bit off season at the moment but it should fall about mid way through my triathlon season. Thing is flat out balls to the wall for a couple of hours is nothing like slogging up 3 mountains.

I think the running order is Scotland first and working down towards Wales.

Had a word with the guy who is organising it and so far its 3 walkers and 2 support drivers.

His idea is that they want to do the drive in a Ford Galaxy which to me for 5 people and kit seems a bit small. But as I have no idea how much kit we are going to take I have no field of reference for this.

I have climbed Snowdon about 6 times, Scarfell once but never done any walking in Scotland so again no idea what this is going to be like.

Oh I should say most of the Snowdon ascents where done in winter and I have walked in the Alps a couple of times but again this is 3 mountains in quick succession

I did it a few years back, was meant to be walking all three peaks but buggered my hip up a few weeks before, so only walked the first and shared the driving with one other.

We were about 10 people in all, and had a minibus, which was big enough with all the gear.
A Galaxy sounds like a good option to me, you can always take a roofbox as well maybe. If you are trying to do it in the 24 hours, the galaxy will be much quicker I'd imagine round the country lanes than a minibus which definitely slowed us down.

As far as training goes, it depends how fit you are anyway, and how used to hill climbing. All the people in our group made it, but we were over the 24 hours, although half would have made it if they had not been slowed by the others. Not many did that much and some did no training.

I don't remember the kit list, but we took the usual, 1st aid kits, torches, maps, compasses, spare clothes, stoves for hot drinks, plenty of water etc, but we had enough space!
            Hope this helps a bit.

I done three peaks last year, 23 1/2 hours, was good time. Best get training in now though. I started at wales and went north, Scarfell isn't much fun in the dark. Take plenty of fluids, take your time, good conversation on the walks helps a lot. Above all, just have fun. Are you doing this for charity?

Yup, a mate of mine did it... he had recently had a heart transplant and was raining funds for the ward he was on... he did the driving not the climbing... but that alone is hard work!!!

Not sure about training.. I'll ask him!!

I did the support driving for a group of friends many years ago. There was about 10 of us, so we had a mini-bus. Driving through the twisty Scottish and Welsh roads is no fun in such a big and slow vehicle.

If you are relatively hill-walking fit then it's not too bad. I think the driving is the worst part of it all, unless you get bad weather. Normal hill walking kit should be enough, and take the normal precautions. We did it north to south, Ben Nevis first thing in the morning, Sca-Fell in the afternoon, and Snowdon in the middle of the night.
