        • yeah you're right Tony! hehe, I think I must be tired (can I use that excuse please? lol). It might help some people to think of a magnetised mono-rail.

          Indeed if the conveyor moved back even at 1million miles an hour, the plane would stay still (kind of - the friction is there but minimal) but the wheels would just freewheel! (and burn up probably lol)

            Yup. First the forward thrust from the prop/turbine, which bears no relation to the wings as such, but provides the forward drive/momentum, and then the airflow over the wings, which creates the high/low pressure which allows for take-off.

                          You're so close. This is the case. The plane will continue to accelerate up to the limit of its engines capabilities. Drag and friction from the air will stop it from accelerating indefinitely, as usual.
