Just got back from helping my 19 year old stepson from moving into his own rented flat.( there is a strange lack of furniture and kitchen bits in the house now). Also have to put up with a crying wife. Any Tips.

That's great news the lad will feel better and so will your good lady, take them out for a meal and a few drams. I am sure things will settle down soon.
Mine are getting close to the departure lounge of the family home too. I know it will be hard but as long as they know where to run if they get into trouble that's worth hanging onto better they go on their own under good terms than leg it when they think the grass is greener on the other side with sour grapes.
Hope she perks up soon.

Believe me, when they live at home you never see them, they move out and spend more time back at your house than theirs.
Change the locks now or move and dont tell them where you have goneSay not always what you know, but always know what you say.
