  • Thinking of returning to surfdom

    Hi all

Long time no write etc... I am think of returning to surfdom. It has been about a year and a half since i sold my truck but I want in!!!

I had a 2nd Gen M Reg 3.0 before and not really sure what to buy now. I think i prefer the 2nd gens but I had the newest one i could have at '95 and to get another seems like it would be a bit old so am considering a 3rd gen.

I have about 4k to spend I am thinking about the following maybe spending less than 2k on a 3.0l 2nd gen or about 4k on a 3rd - spose this would just about get me a 96 / 97.

Sadly I am also thinking about the Grand Jeep Cherokee 3.1TD which i could probably get a 2000 for 4k but I think i prefer the surf.

I was contemplating a really cheap 2.4 but however cheap it is, if the head goes the inconvenience of it would be a right pain!! So I have probably ruled this out.

Obviously there is bias here towards Surf, which is probably what I want to hear anyway, but anyone got any alternative suggestions, thoughts?

    Cheers

    Tom

I would get either a Dodge ram!

or a 2.4! shocking power!! Especially if you upgrade from the 3.0ltr

anyway - enough of me talking balls!

get a 3rd gen mate - i plan on getting one someday, power, comfort , half decent fuel economy! More room!!!!

get a nice intercooled model an you'll be well happy mate!

    welcome back

hi norm welcome home mate, depending on what you want to use it for mainly road use or off roading.the 2nd and 3rd gen are both great trucks.but for 4k you could get a fully loaded 2nd gen.or an early 3rd gen.stick with the surfs mate you know it makes sense.

I would like to say I was going to offroad it till it breaks but realistically i am going to use it as a normal car with the odd bit of green laning and off roading.

If I could find somewhere near me that was a proper off road centre I would probably buy another really cheap one so I could try and roll it!! ha ha !

had a 2gen missed it so got a 3gen after a yaer and a bit break, miss the ruggedness of the 2gen but as far as a allrounder the 3gen is best, power, fuel economy, comfort, proper gearbox and its newer. if you can get an intercooled ssrg, so sory i didnt. oh hum

Get to a meet somewhere and try out lots of different ones re aquaint yourself. I'm sure we'd all let you try out our respective models. Then see what you think on and off. Don't rush into anything.

Glad you are returning to the scene.

                  Cheers JB

                    Forgot about the plastic!

If i had to choose which truck to own in stock form - 2nd or 3rd , i would choose 3rd.

they look better stock, but jacked up! 2nd gen takes the biscuit!!

the only extra plastic is the bit clipped on to the bottom of the doors-protected by sliders/side steps

What are the bumpers made out of on a 3rd gen?

Im not tryin to be smart or anything, ive never really had a 'close' counter with one mate.

steel the lower front valance is like a 2gen plastic

now im no specialist but i would say that the steel on all the panels is a few microns thinner than the 2gens, when polishing(yes you now the stuff toyoto did to your pride and joy when they had finished making it) the 3 gen feels tiney
