  • 3rd Gen spare wheel

Another question that I am sure someone will be able to answere:

do most 3rd gen's come with the spare on a rear mounted carrier.

Have seen some with the spare slung under the rear (as my 2nd gen 4 runner) which I think I prefer for quicker access to the boot area and also where i park at work is a bit restricted so hinging the wheel out could be an issue.

    why the difference?

The first one I looked at had the underslung, the higher spec cars seem to have the rear mounted.. I personally think it looks better, plus its easier to use if you need the spare, or if you want to run bugger tyres..

I would imagine there is a ground clearance advantage too! - as well as freeing up more space for veg oil/lpg tanks, and compresser tanks.
    More Lift.
    More Tyres.

My 3rd Gen is an SSRX & it has the spare under slung.

Very easy to get too as it's on a very clever winch type system undone by the jack handle.

Makes life easier when opening the rear tailgate.

I suppose ground clearance would be affected by it though.

Both the 3rd GENS ive had have the rear wheel carrier, My 2nd Gen had it underneath. I dont really mind the advantage is not lying in a puddle when you need to change it.

Not yours either is it Trev?

Took you an hour and a quarter to spot it, then you didn't spot that I'd spotted it first.
