My advice would be to go to Prague instead - much nicer city!

Yep land get straight on the train and take an hour long ride out to Appledorm and onto Vanssen and see how nice Holland is. Instead of Amdam
as it's full of foreign junkies and beggars (mainly british) sadly.

Ok to recap the advice so far is if you are going to Amsterdam -dont.
Go straight past it and find somewhere nicer.

Actually, reading the posts it does sound quite negative, but when I was there a couple of years ago I had a great time.

Kind of depends on why you're going. If it's for recreational purposes look no further. If you want to be all romantic, go somewhere else. If you don't want travel and money, just go to Brugge.
